Does Candy AI have AI boyfriends? Yes, but as an AI boyfriend app it is a small annex rather than a second house. Candy’s public sitemap lists 12 male characters, against 181 in the main section and 73 in Anime. I read all twelve bios for this page in one sitting, and I am now fully informed and slightly embarrassed.

A word on where this site stands. It exists for Candy Shorts, and the Shorts are made with a male viewer in mind. So this page covers the chat and generation side of Candy for readers who want a boyfriend, from Candy’s public pages and help center re-checked on October 15, 2026. It will not pretend the Shorts are your way in.

The Candy AI boyfriend app: who is on the list

There is no native app: Candy runs in a mobile browser and installs as a progressive web app, per its help center. The category switch on Candy’s pages has three settings: the main female section, Anime and Guys. Guys leads to the boyfriend page, which shows 12 characters, each with a short bio and an age. Ages run from 25 to 50. The jobs include a fitness coach, a violinist, a data analyst, a soldier, a pilot, a realtor, a surfer and a chiropractor, plus a businessman and a socialite.

The bios read like scenario hooks, so judge a character by your first message, not the blurb. Candy’s landing copy promises “confident and charismatic” types and “thoughtful and intellectual” ones. Meanwhile the Premium plan card still says “Create your own AI Girlfriend(s)”, which suggests which part of the product came first. Twelve is a thin shelf.

Can you build your own AI boyfriend?

Yes. The page’s “Create your AI” button opens Candy’s character builder set to male, and the first screen asks you to choose Realistic or Anime. That is as far as I went, because later steps need you to submit choices and I will not invent a male menu. The female builder’s options are on the create-your-own page, and the age picker there starts at 18. Candy’s page says your boyfriend can send selfies on request, realistic or anime-style, plus audio messages, and lists no price for either.

The free tier allows one custom character. More need Premium, and Candy counts creation as a token use without publishing a price. One number does sit in the male builder’s page code: a pop-up about an “NSFW Image Engine V2” upgrade says images of an upgraded character cost 4 tokens. I could not trigger it logged out, so treat it as a hint, not a price list.

Gay, straight and what the public pages leave out

Candy’s boyfriend page never says “gay” and mentions no LGBT options. Nothing I could see in the Guys section filters by orientation. One of the twelve cards, for a 50-year-old character, refers to gay saunas in its bio, so same-sex stories are at least in the catalog. Past that I have nothing: I have not chatted with any of them, and a bio is not a promise about behavior. The test is cheap. Read the bios, then spend your first free message on exactly what you want and see how the character answers.

What free covers and what Premium adds

Candy’s help center lists the free tier without mentioning sections (the full list is in our free-tier guide): 5 messages in total across all characters, one custom character, one image. I could not test that with a male character, so read it as likely, not confirmed. Premium adds unlimited text chat, which costs no tokens, and 100 tokens a month for the extras.

Two things to check before paying, both from Candy’s own pages. First, calls: the call prompt appears on all 12 male character pages with a beta price of 3 tokens a minute, and the voice-calls page has the maths. Second, video: Candy’s “Scene Video” option, 12 tokens for a 5-second clip, shows on the female and anime chat pages I loaded and on none of the 12 male ones. Candy lists video generation as a Premium benefit in general, but I cannot confirm a boyfriend can be turned into a clip, so test it before you assume.

The plans are the same whichever section you shop in, and the call price I saw was identical on male, anime and female pages, so the token meter at least has no type. The 12-month plan is $3.99 a month, billed $47.88 once, and the 1-month plan is $9.99 for the first month, then $13.99. Every plan renews automatically, so set a reminder. Candy’s boyfriend page mentions a “7-day trial”. The plan page and help center I checked describe none, and the free account is the 5-message one, so I would not plan around a trial.

Where Candy Shorts fit (mostly, they don’t)

None of the Shorts leads I could check has a profile in the Guys section. They sit in the main female and Anime sections, and the synopses I read mostly speak to a male viewer. Candy also says Shorts are separate from your chats, so watching changes nothing in a character’s history. If you want male characters, Shorts will not supply any. Who should pay for the boyfriend side

Pay if the bios gave you someone you want to talk to and your free messages confirmed it. The 12-month plan is the cheap route. Skip it if you want a deep roster, because twelve is thin, or if video matters, because that question is open.

The honest drawbacks: a short shelf, no orientation filter, token prices mostly unpublished, video unconfirmed and automatic renewal. One practical trick: chat costs no tokens on Premium, and Candy refunds a subscription only within 24 hours if you used 20 tokens or fewer. Decide through chat first and your token count stays under the refund limit.
