Is Candy AI chat worth paying for? Yes, if you want to talk past a sample, and the 12-month plan makes it cheap: unlimited text chat comes with every Premium plan, from $3.99 a month, and it spends no tokens. The free account gives you 5 messages, in total, across every character on the site.
Five messages is a greeting, a question, a follow-up and two regrets. I have drafted longer apologies for a burnt dinner. This page covers what the free messages buy, what Premium changes, what Candy says about memory and what I cannot judge from outside, and how chat connects to Candy Shorts. Everything is from Candy’s terms, help center and public pages, re-checked on October 15, 2026.
Candy AI chat on the free tier: five messages, then the door
Candy’s terms say a free user may generally send a maximum of 5 messages to AI characters, and the help center confirms the count runs across all of them. So you can say five things to one character or one thing to each of five. I found nothing saying it refills.
Spend them like telegrams. A sharp first message shows you a character’s tone; “hi” shows you nothing and costs a fifth of your budget. Free also includes one custom character and one image. Shorts are separate from chat, so the free episodes do not draw on your five.
Candy AI chat on Premium: unlimited, and free of tokens
Candy’s terms promise a paid subscriber unlimited access to the messaging system, and the help center says regular chatting costs no tokens and stays open even when your balance hits zero. Tokens go to the extras: listening to voice messages, voice calls (beta), images, video, private content packs and Shorts episodes. That separation is the whole commercial logic. The plan buys the talking; the tokens buy the garnish.

See the Premium plansChat alone is the cheapest thing Premium sells. On the 12-month plan, unlimited chat plus 100 tokens is $3.99 a month, billed $47.88 once. The 1-month plan is $9.99 for the first month, then $13.99, and every plan renews automatically, so set a reminder. The full comparison lives in what Candy AI costs, and the voice side is covered in Candy AI voice calls.
Does Candy AI remember you? What Candy says, and what I can’t test
Candy’s homepage promises “memory retention” and a companion that remembers what you shared. The help center is more specific: detailed memory is tied to the active chat, so resetting or deleting a chat clears the memory with it, and there is no way to wipe the history while keeping the memory. Premium Plus lists 20 memory slots and five cloned chats, without explaining a slot. Clone Chat copies a conversation so you can take the story in a different direction.
How good the memory is, I cannot tell you; the paid chat sits behind a login, and I won’t invent a sample. A test for your first week: tell a character three small facts, change the subject twice, then ask about one the next day.
Modes, filters and the unprompted extras
- Modes. Classic and Roleplay exist for characters you create, and Roleplay is permanent once switched on. There is no intensity slider.
- Moderation. Candy pitches itself as an adult chat with “uncensored” fantasy, but its terms say moderation controls may moderate or alter a request before a reply is generated. Flagged by mistake? Use the report option. The terms also say flagged content can be reviewed manually, so treat chats as private, not secret.
- Who speaks first. Characters cannot start conversations. Realistic-mode characters may still send photos, voice notes and videos at random in an open chat, and toggles switch that off.
- Image spend. Premium has an Image Generation Toggle in the chat menu that removes the “Show me” prompts, which matters once image generation starts drawing on your tokens.
- Languages. English and French are officially supported; other languages may work if you ask, unofficially.
How chat connects to Candy Shorts
Candy says Shorts are separate from your chats, so watching an episode does not touch a relationship or history with a character. The link is the hand-off: a series ends by pointing you to its lead’s chat, and some series pages I loaded carry a “Chat with the Cast” row. The costs differ too. Chat spends no tokens on Premium, while a paid episode spends 12 (30 on Creator series). Watch the free episodes, then use your 5 messages to say hello to the lead; is Candy Shorts worth it has the token maths.
Who should pay for chat
Pay if you hit the 5-message wall and wanted more, if you plan to build a character, or if you want to chat after a series. The 12-month plan is my pick for that. Stay free if the free messages and free episodes left you shrugging, and expect nothing more from me about the quality of paid chat than what Candy publishes.
One practical point: chat costs no tokens, so testing it cannot use up the 20 tokens that Candy’s refund rule allows. That rule is 24 hours after payment, card payments only, and cancelling is not a refund request. Setting a calendar reminder before it renews beats leaning on it.

Questions people ask
How many free messages do you get on Candy AI?
5 in total, across all characters, not per character. Candy's terms say a free user may generally send a maximum of 5 messages to AI characters, and further use requires a subscription. I found nothing saying the allowance refills, so make each message count.
Is Candy AI chat unlimited?
On Premium, yes for text: the terms promise unlimited access to the messaging system, and the help center says chat stays available even when your tokens run out. Tokens still pay for voice messages, voice calls (beta), images, video and private content packs. The free tier is not unlimited: 5 messages in total.
Does Candy AI remember conversations?
Candy says yes. Its homepage promises 'memory retention', and its help center ties memory to each chat. Resetting or deleting a chat clears the memory with it, and there is no option to wipe history but keep memory. Premium Plus lists 20 memory slots without saying what a slot holds. I cannot grade how well it remembers.
Is Candy AI chat worth paying for?
Yes, if you want conversation past a sample. On the 12-month plan, unlimited text chat plus 100 tokens costs $3.99 a month; the 1-month plan is $9.99 for the first month, then $13.99. If you mostly want stories, the free Shorts episodes cost nothing, so watch those first.
Can the characters message me first?
No, according to Candy's help center: AI characters cannot start conversations, so you send the first message. Some characters in Realistic mode send photos, voice notes and videos at random inside a chat, and toggles beside the gift icon switch that off. Candy's pages do not say what those unprompted extras cost.
Can I change how intense the chat gets?
There is no intensity slider, says Candy's help center. You steer with how you write, with Roleplay instructions, with a created character's personality and background, and by regenerating replies. Created characters have Classic and Roleplay modes, and Roleplay is permanent once switched on. Moderation can still limit what happens, whatever you set.
