Candy AI alternatives: what's actually worth switching to

The best Candy AI alternatives depend on one question: do you want Candy Shorts? If you do, there is no alternative, because none of the services I checked sells anything like them. If you only want someone to chat with, a cheaper or freer option probably exists, and three of them are below with real prices.

I should confess what comparison shopping did to me. I opened seven rival sites in one sitting, and my tab bar now looks like a ransom note. This page is what I would tell a friend before they sign up somewhere else: who beats Candy at what, what each one costs, and where I would not bother switching.

A word on method. Everything here about other services comes from their own public pages, meaning home pages, pricing tables, help centers and documentation, read in October 2026. I did not pay for any of them, so I will not rank their chat or image quality, because I would be guessing. Where I could read a price or a limit, I give it. Where I could not, I say so.

Candy AI alternatives at a glance

Prices are US dollars as each service showed them, and taxes or your region can change the amount at checkout. Nectar AI shows its plans only after you log in, and Nomi prints no price on its public pages, so neither gets a number here. Candy’s own plans are broken down in what Candy AI costs.

Is there a free Candy AI alternative?

Yes, three of them, and each has its own idea of free:

• SpicyChat says in its documentation that core features stay free, and its cheapest paid tier mostly removes ads and adds memory.
• CrushOn AI lists a free plan with unlimited use of its free models and 100 message credits a month for its Pro models. It also says chat history on the free plan is deleted after seven days of inactivity.
• Nomi says free accounts include daily messages and images with no card needed. Voice calls, extra companions and unlimited messaging need a subscription. It does not publish the daily limit.

Candy’s free tier is 5 messages in total, one custom character, one image and the free Shorts episodes. On plain text, all three alternatives give you far more to try. The catch is the same everywhere: free buys text. Images, video and voice are paid on every service I read, and OurDream AI is the strictest of all, because its help center says you need a subscription to generate images or video, and a free account pays one dreamcoin per chat message.

Candy AI alternatives for images, video and voice

OurDream AI is the closest match on features. Its home page lists chat with AI characters, image and video generation, voice calls and character creation, behind an 18+ confirmation. It costs $9.99 a month on a yearly plan (billed $119.88 upfront) or $19.99 on a monthly one, and both include 1,000 dreamcoins a month. Everything beyond plain chat spends those coins. Its help center prices a standard video at 100 dreamcoins per five seconds, so a month of coins buys about ten five-second clips and nothing else. The trap is at the exit: if you unsubscribe, the help center says your images and videos are blurred until you resubscribe. The full comparison is in Candy AI vs OurDream AI.

Nectar AI runs in the browser with no native app. Its documentation lists companion chat, group chats, ready-made “fantasies”, image and video generation, and voice messages and calls, and says video generation is included in its Ultimate plan, with clips from 5 to 30 seconds on one model. I cannot give you a price, because its pricing page sent me to a login screen. Its fantasies are the nearest thing to Candy’s stories, but they are scenarios you chat through, not a series of video episodes.

Candy AI alternatives for long text roleplay

SpicyChat is a text roleplay platform that sells depth in tiers rather than a coin balance. Since September 8, 2026, its own pricing FAQ puts the paid tiers at $5.95, $19.95 and $29.95 a month, or $60, $199.95 and $299.95 a year. The tiers differ in memory (4K, 8K and up to 32K), models, reply length and extras. The documentation puts conversation images in the two upper tiers and text-to-speech in the top one, and the premium features page lists no video generation. People who subscribed before the change keep their old price while their plan stays the same, which is a kind thing to put in writing.

CrushOn AI has a public pricing page with a free plan, then paid plans measured in message credits. The page showed me a localized version, so I am not quoting its prices here: check them in your own currency, and check which tier your click lands on. I did not test either service, so I cannot say whose roleplay reads better.

The best AI companion apps for friendship: Nomi, Kindroid, Replika

These three sell continuity more than fantasy, and none of them printed a price on the public pages I read.

Nomi pitches memory: each companion remembers what matters, and the site lists group chats, voice calls and a free tier. It says conversations are not restricted by content filters. Its refund policy says it does not refund unused time, so read the checkout screen before you pay.

Kindroid calls itself a subscription service where new accounts can try it first, for adults only. It lists text and voice messages, voice and video calls, selfies, group chats and long-term memory, with apps on the App Store and Google Play plus the web. Its home page links to plans but prints no prices.

Replika, from Luka, Inc., is the household name. Its home page pitches an AI friend with memory, calls and selfies, on iOS and Android. It says nothing about adult content, so if that is why you are shopping, its public page gives you no reason to expect it.

Where Candy AI is still the pick

Shorts. Candy has 145 public series with 291 free episodes, each under two minutes, in a phone-shaped player, and none of the services above lists anything like them. Candy also wins on sticker price for a full-featured plan. As of October 2026, its 12-month plan at $3.99 a month ($47.88 up front) undercuts every annual rate I could verify here: OurDream’s $9.99 and SpicyChat’s cheapest tier. Those cheaper tiers buy different things, so read it as a price check, not a verdict.

Now the honest part. I tried being unfaithful to Candy for research, and the guilt was mostly spreadsheet-shaped. But if text chat is the whole point, you would pay for Shorts and token-priced extras you never touch, and Candy’s free tier is the smallest of the free ones above. In that case, switch.

The fine print on both sides

Heads-up: every price on this page is a snapshot from October 2026. SpicyChat raised its prices in September, so check the live pricing page before you pay anyone.

• Candy AI: the plan renews automatically and cannot be paused, a 1-month plan has the dearest tokens, top-up pack prices are not public, and a Creator series costs 30 tokens per paid episode instead of 12.
• OurDream AI: its help center says you need an active subscription to buy dreamcoins, images and videos blur if you unsubscribe, and refunds are denied once more than 25% of a product is used. It does not accept PayPal.
• SpicyChat: its September 2026 change moved the monthly tiers from $5, $14.95 and $24.95 to the figures above. Switching plans, even downgrading, moves you to current pricing.
• CrushOn AI: the free plan deletes chat history after seven days of inactivity, and the paid tiers meter usage in credits.
• Nectar AI: no public price, and its docs say some actions spend credits, so look at the displayed price before each paid action.

• Candy Shorts and the free episodes: Candy AI, with no rival.
• Images, video and voice calls in one place: OurDream AI, or Candy AI if you want to see one free image before paying.
• The cheapest way to chat with text: CrushOn AI or SpicyChat, both with free plans.
• Long roleplay with a big memory: SpicyChat’s upper tiers.
• Friendship and long-term memory: Nomi or Kindroid.
• Not an adult-focused product: Replika.

App or browser? OurDream and Nectar run in a browser with no native app. SpicyChat has an official Android file you download from its site, and on iOS you add it to your home screen. Replika and Kindroid list iOS and Android apps, and Nomi links an iOS app.
